Validity of DIBELS
Some important concerns are:
- Does DIBELS have evidence of validity especially predicting success and difficulty achieving important reading outcomes?
- Despite their labels, DIBELS is not a valid test of the constructor of fluency. They assess accuracy and speed.
- Misuse of the term validity when there’s not enough statistical data
Administrative considerations meant to ensure reliability of DIBELS results:
- Criterion-related validity studied in eight separate studies in the 1980s reported coefficients ranging from .52-.91
